« Les ombres douces »
30 X 30 X 6 cm
Since childhood, the swallow was the first to teach me the meaning of flight. Through it, and through nothing else, I discovered the dream, and that first sense of freedom that cannot be explained, only lived.
Years later, the swallow moved from the sky onto the canvas, in an instant when our dreams became filled with a single voice calling for freedom. Since then, its presence has become an integral part of the universe of my work. It has accompanied the children in my paintings, a guardian of their worlds. And it has travelled with me through my successive migrations, carrying the traces of the places we left behind, and what remains of them in memory.
In this collection, the swallow appears not merely as a symbol, but as a movement that crosses borders. Here, the swallow is never fully visible, but can be sensed between the layers of the work. It becomes a window between the inside and the outside, between what we see and what we remember, between stillness and the desire to cross through. And here, emptiness is not an absence, but a space where memory, emotions, and movement accumulate.
In this sense, Soft Shadows echoes the spirit of The Conference of the Birds by Farid al-Din Attar, in which the journey transforms from a search for a distant place into a journey towards oneself. The swallow is not so much searching for another sky as it is continuing to cross through.
As if freedom does not lie in arriving, but in the ability to fly.
